In a tough and physical game the momentum swung between the teams for the majority of the day with both sides having to contend with a northerly gale blowing directly down the ground. The boro kicked with the wind in the first quarter and Heidelberg were intent on maintaining possession to reduce the boro’s scoring opportunities. The first quarter ended with scores separated by 2 points. The boro employed similar tactics in the second quarter maintaining possession with most of the players pressing into Heidelberg’s forward half. Both sides were finding it difficult to gain an advantage and at the main break only 3 points separated the sides in what was a low scoring match. The third quarter followed the pattern of the first with the boro finding it difficult to capitalise with the wind. Our usual goal contributors were unable to get any clean possession as Heidelberg crowded our forward half. The game had been a close contest up until three quarter time but in the final quarter Heidelberg, kicking with the wind, established a break and gained the momentum and the boro appeared to run out of legs in what had been a physical encounter allowing Heidelberg to run away to a 39 point win.
